Thanks for your interest in my little letter writing project! I've sent my 250th Letter to Mikey D. It was great reading and responding to all 60+ entries, and I look forward to future correspondence!
The 250th Letter!
Since moving to Philadelphia in September 2009, I've handwritten approximately 250 letters. To mark this achievement (and hopefully acquire some new penpals), I would like to send a lucky person one of my trademark "map letters" (see link - a handdrawn map approximately two feet by two feet in size with a letter written overtop). All you have to do is send a note to this address by April 15, 2016 (4-15-16!):
Simon's 250th Letter
PO Box 15241
Philadelphia, PA 19125
I promise to answer every letter you send in - again, part of this is to get a few new penpals! On or around April 15th (depending on my schedule), I'll pull one lucky envelope from a hat and that person will get the aforementioned "map letter" as a response.
FAQ
- "What if I've sent letters in the past?" To my regular penpals, have no fear! As long as you've written at least three letters in the past five years, I'll include all of your letters in the drawing. There are a few exceptions to this, as I know a few people already have "map letters".
- "What should I write?" Write whatever you'd like! Here are some suggestions:
- Something that made you happy recently.
- Something that made you sad or angry recently.
- Something you're looking forward to in the next few months.
- A little bit about yourself - age, location, occupation, life philosophy.
- Why you were intrigued enough to participate in this event.
- Questions you have for me! Perhaps professional questions, perhaps entertainment questions, perhaps hobby questions.
- "Do I have to handwrite my letter?" I suppose it's not necessary, but I would like to encourage it. On a related note, my handwriting looks more or less like this.
- "I saw this on the subreddit /r/penpals - does this count as verification?" Yes, I will gladly use these as verification letters for the subreddit. Include your username on the envelope and in the letter.
- "Is there anything else I should know?" You probably will want to include your return address inside the letter as well as on the outside, just in case the envelope is damaged. I'll try to send confirmation postcards just to let you know I've received your letter - depending on how many I get, it could take a while to respond!
I look forward to reading all your letters!
